Roland TrueVIS SG-300 printer/cutter in an easy catch for Mr Cricket

As the name suggests, Mr Cricket is mad about the sport: founded six years ago, the company supplies all kinds of cricket equipment, match apparel and advice to fellow fans from its base near Cambridge, UK.

In fact, by 2016 Mr Cricket was supplying more than 100 sports clubs and six local schools with personalised sportswear, cricket kit and uniforms, with demand not likely to slow down.

With this growth, the cost of outsourcing personalised printing services soared to around DKK168612.32 a year. "Whilst we supplied the kit ourselves, we had to outsource the personalised print services and as the business boomed, we found it increasingly expensive," says Merrick Fuller, Founder of Mr Cricket and Sky Sports Cricket Coach of the Year 2009.

"We also had less control over the quality of the finished products and the turnaround times of orders, so we looked to bring the printing in-house."

An approved Roland dealer recommended the TrueVIS SG-300 printer/cutter,an affordable, easy-to-use system with incredible versatility.

"We mainly use our TrueVIS for printing names, numbers, club badges and logos to personalise sports and school wear and we've seen a big uptake on that part of the business," says Merrick.

But it doesn't end there: banners, sponsor boards and branded items have all been added to the Mr Cricket score sheet thanks to the TrueVIS. "We've also recently created a cricket scoreboard-style wedding table plan, and printed sponsor-branded wrap-arounds for cricket stumps!" Merrick adds.

Mr Cricket estimates that bringing personalisation services in-house is saving DKK84306.16 every year, while boosting profit margins and accessing new opportunities for growth via the new services. The company also has more control over the quality and turnaround times of its products.

Since the installation of the TrueVIS SG-300, self-proclaimed print 'novice' Merrick Fuller has completed the Roland DG Intermediate Digital Print Course, with a view to attending more training at the Roland DG Academy. Until then, it's already knocking the cricket competition for six.
