Everything is in The Forge's wheelhouse thanks to Roland printing, cutting and milling kit

The Forge – located in Huntington Beach, CA, USA – is all about saying yes to its customers, and that means creating all of its work in-house.

"Why give that work to someone else?" says The Forge's Luciano Martinez – who has invested in a growing portfolio of Roland equipment to achieve that goal.

As a specialist supplier to the action sports and distilled spirits industries, The Forge designs and creates a wide range of custom promotional products and accessories, including giveaway items like keyrings, napkin holders and barware, retail displays and even belt buckles.

The company first used a Roland cutter to add art and text to designs, models and moulds, then invested in a Roland MDX-650A benchtop milling machine able to handle more materials for new markets.

"With the MDX, we could branch out to milling full models and moulds from wood and acrylics," says Luciano.

This was followed by another Roland purchase: a VersaUV LEJ-640FT UV flatbed printer. The ability to print, in-house, on a huge variety of materials up to 152mm (6") thick has meant The Forge can offer printing and decoration from short runs and prototypes to very long and full runs.

So far, the business has used its VersaUV LEJ to print onto substrates and items like stainless steel and aluminium, acrylic, chalkboards for hotels, corkboards and car number plates. It only uses Roland's ECO-UV inks, to ensure the best results and ink efficiency.

"First of all, the LEJ-640FT was a Roland, so I knew I could count on it for quality and reliability, but it also has that high head clearance," explains Luciano.

He adds: "Now we are a do-it-all shop. Even if it's not something in our wheelhouse, we make it something in our wheelhouse.

"The hardest part is getting the customer in front of you. Once they're there, you want to give them everything you can. With our Rolands, we're ready to say yes."
