Image is printed with black & white

This can happen when the ICC Output Profile is missing.

Please check the following.

1. Which media and which mode is selected?

2. Check whether the ICC Output Profile for the selected mode really exists in the right folder

When printing a nested job with [RIP while printing] checked, printing doesn't start until ripping is completed.

[RIP while Printing] doesn't work for a nested job with multiple PS, EPS, PDF, JPEG files, because  VersaWorks can't rip multiple PS, EPS, PDF, JPEG files at the same time. On the other hand, VersaWorks can rip multiple TIFF files at the same time.

Here are three examples:
- When performing nesting with only TIFF files, the [RIP while printing] function works.
- When performing nesting with multiple PS, EPS, PDF, JPEG files, the [RIP while printing] function doesn't work.
- When performing nesting with a PS file (or EPS or PDF or JPEG) and TIFF file(s), the [RIP while Printing] function works.

Can I download and install 3. Party media profiles to VersaWorks.

Inside VersaWorks many types of media is listed. Where can I buy this?

Please contact Roland DGN Care for further details.

When ripping EPS data with a cutting line (CutContour) on the outer frame, a part of the frame is not recognized and therefore not cut correctly.

This is a limitation of Roland VersaWorks. Please set "EPS Margin" on 0.35 mm or more to avoid this problem.

See instructions here.

What is the maximum file size that is accepted by Roland VersaWorks?

The maximum file size that is accepted by Roland VersaWorks is 2GB. (If the file is compressed, it becomes even smaller.)
As from version 2.0, this has been improved.
Version 1.xx, the maximum file size that could be accepted was 900M

Roland VersaWorks can't communicate with the printer.

Some antivirus software packages seem to cause this problem. Disable the antivirus software and see if it improves.
If the problem still occurs, please contact your dealer.

Size of an EPS file created in Adobe Illustrator becomes slightly bigger when imported in Roland VersaWorks. For example, 700 x 900mm square becomes 700.26 x 900.28mm.

This is not caused by VersaWorks, but by the way in which Illustrator saves an EPS file. Illustrator expresses the size information of an object in "point" with 72 dpi.
So, 1 inch = 72 points = 25.4 mm
This means 1 point = 0.35277... mm

In this case, 700 mm = 1984.2520... point
However, Illustrator rounds up the number after the decimal point when saving as an EPS file.
In this case, 1984.2520... point becomes 1985 point.
1985 point = 700.2484...mm. which is very close to 700.26 mm.

VersaWorks shows the correct size of the object.
Please note that it doesn't affect the actual output size. 700mm x 900mm square will be the right size when it's produced.

Profiles of the Roland original media files are missing.

If Roland VersaWorks is upgraded to a new version and some model is newly supported, the profiles of the Roland original media of the added model are not installed in VersaWorks. If a model is newly supported with the newer version, it is necessary to install the new full version of VersaWorks to have the profiles of the added model installed as well.

See illustration here.

The printer stops printing without finishing the last few passes of the job.

When [Print Job Properties] in [Mark]>[Job Property Label] is selected, the machine stops printing without finishing the last few passes of the job.

(Print Mode: 720x1440 or 1080x1080)

(BUSY LED: ON, LCD: NOW PROCESSING, RVW job status: 100%)

This problem is fixed as from version 2.3. Go to http://download.rolanddg.jp/en/color.html for updates.

Can I print and cut multiple elements all in one job?

Yes, this is possible.

In the [Job Setting] dialog > [Layout] tab, select [Custom CUT] for Media Settings. Select the amount of copies. And select how long the printed arrear is allowed to be, example 1000 mm. Then the printer will print 1000 mm. return and start cutting. When the cutting has finished, it will forward the material to where it stopped, and start printing again, to repeat the procedure.

See how this is done.

*TU-2 on the VS-series has a function, where the roll-up can be used for these kind of jobs, called TU2 Print and Cut.

Is there a way to separate a print & cut job into several pieces in Roland VersaWorks?

Yes, here is how to do it.

In the [Job Setting] dialog > [Layout] tab, select [Custom CUT] for Media Settings. Then, input values for [W] and [H]. For example, if you input 500mm for [H], the machine prints 500mm and cuts 500mm, then prints next 500mm and cuts 500mm.....

See illustration here.

Can I set VersaWorks, to automatically cut after each job?

Yes, please go to the [Edit - Queue-A Settings - Printer Controls] and check the "Cut Sheets after Print.

See illustration here.

VersaWorks stops ripping at 20% or never completes ripping.

Maximum RIP area is limited by the print resolution, and also the maximum print length changes by the print width. VersaWorks stops ripping at 20% or never completes ripping if the job exceeds the values in the following chart. The chart shows the referential print lengths by the resolutions and the widths.

*In lengthy printings, it is necessary to have enough memory and hard disc space for Ripping and creating intermediate files. (An error message appears when there is too little memory or disc space.)

* Also note that the Ripped job is much larger than the original file.

See illustration here.

What is the maximum print length?

Maximum print area is limited by the resolution and the maximum print length changes by the print width.

The chart in the link below shows the referential print lengths by the resolutions and the widths.

Note that VersaWorks stops ripping at 20% or never completes ripping if the job exceeds the values in this chart.

*In lengthy printings, it is necessary to have enough memory and hard disc space for Ripping and creating intermediate files. (An error message appears when there is too little memory or disc space.)

* Also note that a Ripped job is much larger than the original file.

See illustration here.

When an error occurs, the error keeps occurring even if VersaWorks is restarted.

Execute [Initialize Application].'

See how it is done.

See illustration here.

Normally, an error is caused by the listed job. If VersaWorks is kept running without selecting [Initialize Application], similar errors may occur frequently.

Please note that after initializing you need to re-enter the IP address.

Even after I've upgraded my VersaWorks to the latest version, I can't output data to my GX cutter.

The firmware of the GX-24 needs to be upgraded to version 2.10 or later. The GX-500/400/300 to version 1.70 or later in order to receive data from VersaWorks.

Also, to import a cutting job file to the Job List of a GX machine in VersaWorks, the file needs to be ripped first at the Job List of a printer (any printer) and sent to the Job List of GX by a drag & drop. (See the VersaWorks Online for the procedures), http://dg4.roland.co.jp/en/RVW2forWeb/index.html.

After I've upgraded to version 3.0 (or later), the RIP speed became extremely slow. Why is that?

Does your job file have any gradation objects? If yes, it can be the cause of the low RIP speed.

As a new feature of version 3.0, VersaWorks has the simulated 16 bit rendering function for gradations. This feature, which improves gradation quality, affects the processing speed and the RIP speed can be slow when the job file contains gradation objects.

The processing speed is planned to be improved in the future version (unknown). As a countermeasure, rearrange the data not to have gradation objects if possible or rasterizing the gradations.
This is described in the RVW Quick Start Guide, which can be downloaded from link http://dg4.roland.co.jp/en/RVW2forWeb/index.html.

See illustration here.

Can the crop marks printed on an XC/VP/SP be detected by a GX-500/400/300/24?

Yes, but VersaWorks and the cutting plotters should meet the following requirements.

- VersaWorks : Version 3.0.0 or later

- GX-500/400/300 : Version 1.70 or later

- GX-24 : Version 2.10 or later

See how this is done.

Is it possible to adjust the crop marks to align the print & cut when using a GX machine for cutting? CutStudio has this function 'Fine Adjustment'.

VersaWorks does not have any functions for print & cut alignment. If you have some trouble with misalignment, please contact your dealer to adjust the print & cut alignment.

Even if the tile spacing is set to 0 mm, a small gap appears between 2 copies.

This is caused by the "Round off error" and cannot be avoided. To erase the gap: if the file is made by the drawing software, copy the file on the drawing software side, and then import the file into VersaWorks

The ink level in VersaWorks does not change although the printer indicates that only 3/4th of the ink remains.

Wait for a while and see.

The ink level indication in VersaWorks changes at every 25% consumption. As for the printer, it changes at every 10%. For instance, when the actual ink consumption is about 23%, it shows "Full" in VersaWorks and the printer shows "80% remaining".

Is VDP (Variable Data Printing) available in Gloss and White ink?

This is not available.

VersaWorks detects the area for gloss ink or white ink by the name of the spot color, RDG_GLOSS or RDG_WHITE. In VDP, these names cannot be set up.

Unexpected black lines are printed with VersaWorks version 3.0 and later.

This is caused by a bug of Adobe CPSI 3018 supported by VersaWorks version 3.x. To avoid the problem, lower the printing resolution of VersaWorks, or reduce the image resolution of the original data.

If the lines are still printed after you did this, please contact your dealer.

Unwanted color is printed in the white part of a job.

This problem occurs when the data is in RGB and [MAX Impact] is selected.

The white part of the RGB data has the color elements as white color for R:255, G:255 and B:255.
When [MAX Impact] is applied, it tries to make the colors vivid prior to the color reproduction and this feature converts the white part to a grey color.

This problem cannot be avoided.

Remove the white part from the RGB data, or use another setting than [MAX Impact]. Placing a process colored object (all zeros in CMYK) on the white part of the RGB data and saving it as another file is also a good way to work around the problem.

Is there a way to save the media at sheet cut position when using the [Cut Sheet after Output] function in VersaWorks?

There is no way to do this. Normally, the printer requires about 75 mm safe margin from the edge of the media because 75 mm margin prevents the print heads from striking on the curled media.

How do I register the Roland color system library in Corel Draw?

In CorelDraw 11/12/X3: follow the procedure to import the spot colors exactly as the Versaworks HELP file describes. If you put the userink.cpl file directly on the folder of CorelDraw, CorelDraw X4 cannot retrieve the cpl file correctly which results in a false reading of spot colors.

(Click here to see the latest procedure)

In CorelDraw X5: the userinks.cpl for VersaWorks is automatically provided.

Does VersaWorks recognize the crop marks which I've made in my design software?

Yes, VersaWorks can read the crop marks which are placed with design software.

See how this is done.

When the color chart is measured by Eye-one with VersaWorks, error -4087 shows and it is not possible to measure the color chart.

This error typically occurs when attempting to read Linearization (calibration) charts in the media explorer on VersaWorks.

To resolve this issue, change the enlargement in queue A to 110% before printing the charts. This error is more common when using the EyeOne device.

See instruction here.

1. Make sure that you have VersaWorks version 1.60 or later. In this version, the color patch was modified.
2. Before measuring the pattern, carry out [Calibration] in the [Measure Chart] menu. It is necessary to carry out [Calibration] when you want to measure. When carrying out [Calibration], put the Eye-one measuring tool on the base for the calibration.
3. When putting the Plate for measuring on the color patch, leave the same space at both ends of the Plate for measuring.
4. After clicking [Measure] in the [Measure Chart] menu of VersaWorks, it is necessary to put the Eye-One measuring tool on the starting position for measuring (left end of the pattern). Then, push the button on the left side of the Eye-One measuring tool. At this moment, do not start measuring immediately. After pressing the button, the PC bleeps. Then, after you heard the bleep from the PC, start moving the Eye-One measuring tool from left to right side while pressing the button. When the Eye-One measuring tool reaches to the right end, release the button.
5. When you measure the color chart, move the Eye-One measuring tool at a constant speed. Do not stop the measuring while moving the Eye-One measuring tool from left to right.
6. Do not lean on the Eye-One measuring tool during measuring.

The following message appears at the startup of VersaWorks after performing an Online Update: "The version of language resource is not matching. If you choose to continue, it will run the application in English Mode. Do you want to continue?"

This error occurs when VersaWorks fails to download all the necessary files for the update. When you encounter this message, please perform the Online Update again. All things that have to be downloaded should be found if you click on "Check for updates".

The message "Color profile C:\Program Files\....icc not found" appears when VersaWorks starts ripping.

If VersaWorks was originally an earlier version and has been upgraded to the latest, the generic media profiles for a newly added printer are not available.

Media profiles are available only in the disc of VersaWorks which comes with the printer package. Roland@NET does not provide any generic media profiles.

If your product is registered you can download the latest full version of Versaworks, by contacting Roland DGN Care.

The message "Cannot find information the ink set used in the device detected. Please make sure the software supports this ink set" appears in the Printer Settings of my SP.

This is a setting that only a technician can change. So please contact your dealer.

VersaWorks is upgraded to version 3.11, but RIPC supported profiles for the AJ-1000/740 are not available.

The updater, which does not contain RIPC support for the AJ-1000/740, is the one available on Roland @NET (the download page of Roland official website-.

Please use the full version to make the RIPC profiles for AJ-1000/740 available in VersaWorks.

If your product is registered you can download the latest full version of Versaworks, by contacting Roland DGN Care.

VersaWorks does not recognize the spot colors of an EPS file that is made in CorelDraw X3.

Please make sure that the Roland Color System Library is registered the right way:

In CorelDraw 11/12/X3: follow the procedure to import the spot colors exactly as the Versaworks HELP file describes.
If you put the userink.cpl file directly on the folder of CorelDraw, CorelDraw X4 cannot retrieve the cpl file correctly which results in a false reading of spot colors.

In CorelDraw X5: the userinks.cpl for VersaWorks is automatically provide

The dongle is broken. Can I order another one?

We can supply a replacement dongle as a spare part in exchange for the broken dongle, because the license of the VersaWorks is controlled by the dongle.

Is it possible to run two SP-300V's from the same installation of VersaWorks?

VersaWorks is not able to run two SP-300V's from the same installation of VersaWorks.
Because SP-300V only has the USB interface and VersaWorks cannot distinguish one SP-300V from another.

Therefore, VersaWorks cannot detect which SP-300V is connected and the message ''The selected device has already been setup '' shows when connecting the second printer.

When adding crop marks for GX machines in CutStudio, there is a length limitation. Is this the same in VersaWorks?

No, there is no limitation when adding the crop marks in VersaWorks.

Gretag EyeOne often fails to measure the linearization Color Chart.

EyeOne can sometimes read the wrong area as the first color patch.

Make sure not to place the EyeOne on a letter such as "K (1st Row)" when measuring. The measuring should start in an unprinted area and go through the color patches, and stop in an unprinted area.

See the procedure here.

The blade force that has been set in VersaWorks is not applied when cutting.

Check the ''CUTTING PRIOR'' settings on the printer. The default setting ''COMMAND'' means that the cutting setting on the PC takes priority.
If ''MENU'' is selected, please change to ''COMMAND'' in order to apply the cutting settings of VersaWorks.

The blade force that was set in VersaWorks for perforated cutting is not applied when cutting.

The procedure is the same as when performing traditional CutContour. Except that the SPOT color must be named PerfCutContour.

If ''MENU'' is selected, please change to ''COMMAND'' in order to apply the cutting settings of VersaWorks.

Download custom Roland swatch for Illustrator.

In VersaWorks, there are many different selectable medias. Is it possible to limit the amount visible in the menu?

Yes. If you go to the "Media Explorer" in the "Media" menu, you can remove the little "eye" on the left side of the media name.

By deselecting the media, you will remove it from the menu in VersaWorks, under "Quality" "Media Type".
