'Papillon' a unique chair designThe Danish Design School, Copenhagen - 'Papillon' is a unique chair that is designed and developed with inspiration from the cradle to cradle paradigm - a philosophy that serves as the overall inspiration for design students Jasper Overgaard and Christian Dyrman. Cradle to Cradle is centered round a sustainable design concept in which all elements of a product is easily disassembled and reusable. "We think we as future designers have a lot of pressure on our shoulders. The world is facing serious problems as a result of our way of living. The human consumption is rapidly increasing and as we live today we are experts in generating pollution and waste. Now is the time to make changes and we as designers play a big role in the making of these changes," says Jasper and Christian.
Roland DG's MDX-540 was used to mill a prototype of the Papillon chair in a wooden block created of finely carved wooden pieces. The result was a stunning design and a unique prototype that displayed every detail of the design. The design and the concept have received much attention, and the two students are currently in negotiations with several companies, in regards to production of their design. The chair was exhibited at the design school as part of the COP15 meeting and most recently at the Formland exhibition.
